Description
Each model is individually-numbered and stated in limited variety of only 18
pieces Both models are housed in round cases crafted from 5N 18-karat pink gold
. Each case measures 42mm in diameter and 14.6mm in
thickness and features a domed shape sapphire crystal glass, while on the case
back, a sapphire reveals the stylized ¡°V¡± that stands for Vulcain. The water
resistance of the case is assured down to 50 meters (about 165 feet). The dial
features ¡°Grand Feu¡± cloisonn¨¦ enamel. This complex technique means that the
outline of the dial design is produced either on the dial itself, or on paper.
The highly skilled enamelling technique involves applying fine strips of gold
wire, only 0.07 mm wide, hand bent and applied to the outline using two pliers. Furthermore, the individual
cells that give the detail to the image are also formed by gold wire and set
within the outline. The new Vulcain watch that celebrates the Chinese 2014 Year
of Horse is powered with the in-house manufactured cricket caliber V-20 that
powers the hours, minutes, seconds and the alarm function. The self-winding
mechanism features ceramic ball bearings, 31 jewels, 229 individual parts,
double barrel, decoration (rhodium coating, Côtes de Gen¨¨ve motifs, blued
screws) and guarantees full 42 hours of power reserve. It has the beating rate
of 18,000 vibrations per hour. This novelty comes with a black Louisiana
alligator leather strap, ending with an 18-karat pink gold pin buckle. For the
first time, Schaffhausen-based manufacturer used bronze for the watch case of new Aquatimer Chronograph
Edition ¡°Expedition Charles Darwin¡±.This special edition timepiece is a tribute
to the Darwin¡¯s journey to the Galapagos Islands where he collected the evidence
that formed the basis of his theory on the origin of species. Interestingly,
bronze has been one of the most commonly used materials in shipbuilding at that
time.
